  7. Thank you for trying Hard Disk LED. This file includes 
  8. information on Hard Disk LED features and how to contact 
  9. Pragmatica Software Limited.

  11. Introducing Hard Disk LED
  12. -------------------------
  13. The main purpose of this program is to simulate a hard disk 
  14. light that flashes every time there's a disk activity. The 
  15. Hard Disk LED appears on the Windows 95 task bar and flashes 
  16. every time the system accesses physical, direct access 
  17. devices (i.e. your hard drives).
  18.  
  19. I created HDLED as a proof of concept for another project 
  20. mainly too see how I can handle asynchronous communication 
  21. between a VXD and a Win32 application. Then I realized that 
  22. it may be quite useful. Now you can see if your PC is still 
  23. rolling even if there's no activity on the screen and you're 
  24. about to hit the Ctrl-Alt-Del key.

  26. I run it for some time on different machines and didn't see 
  27. any problems or performance decrease. If you find any bugs 
  28. or have any ideas how to improve let me know.

  46. SETUP
  47. -----
  48. Unzip the distribution file in a temporary directory, run 
  49. Setup, reboot the system and enjoy it.

  51. The product is composed of 3 files:
  52. HDLED.VXD    VXD that monitors hard disk accesses.
  53. HDLED.EXE    Win32 application that displays the monitor         
  54.         light on the Windows 95 task bar.
  55. README.TXT    this file.

  57. Setup will copy HDLED.VXD to c:\windows\system\iosubsys\ and 
  58. HDLED.EXE to c:\Program Files\Pragmatica\Hard Disk LED\. It 
  59. will also create a shortcut in StartUp folder. If you 
  60. experience any problems, terminate the HDLED.EXE program (see 
  61. below) and remove HDLED.VXD from c:\windows\system\iosubsys\ 
  62. or run Control Panel, select Add/Remove Programs and remove 
  63. Hard Disk LED.

  65. HOW TO USE IT
  66. -------------
  67. Once the setup is finished and you rebooted your computer 
  68. the HDLED.VXD and HDLED.EXE will be automatically loaded. 
  69. Press the left mouse button on the task bar Hard Disk LED 
  70. icon to activate a popup menu. The menu contains following 
  71. options:

  73. About        Display about dialog box
  74. Turn off    Turn the Hard Disk LED off
  75. Set color    Change the light color
  76. Exit        Terminate the Hard Disk LED

  80. None whatsoever but I recommend that you practice safe 
  81. computing.

  83. REGISTRATION
  84. --------------------
  85. This program and its accompanying files are classified as 
  86. shareware. They may be used on a single computer for a 
  87. period of up to 30 days for evaluation, after which time 
  88. they must be removed from the system or registered.

  91. a money order or a cheque for $5.00 to the address below.

  93. Note: If you use an unregistered copy, the program will turn 
  94. itself off after 30 minutes.
